Greetings fellow crafters,

How time is flying towards Christmas. I cannot believe it. I have just realised that October went by so quickly, I didn’t even get to do a Blog. However, I’m excited to share with you what my many students have been busy with.

Jean Beckley’s matching cushions are complete and they look stunning. This was Jean’s first attempt at Mountmellick embroidery and her work is outstanding. Jean decided to do the cushions with grey thread on grey cotton material instead of the traditional white-on-white and they look beautiful. Congratulations Jean.

Kirsten van der Riet embroidered two cushion covers for her holiday home in Stanford. She has done a fantastic job of these cushions. Her sewing is beautiful and the colours really do justice to the flora embroidered.

Delene Wolf-Coote sewed up both sets of cushions. Thank you, Dalene, for doing such an incredible job of finishing off our projects. You certainly add the professional touch.

Lynne Ross has just gifted her daughter with a magnificent, crocheted jersey which she made. Lynne has crocheted it so neatly and the colour is lovely. What a lucky daughter! Now Lynne is learning to knit. I am so proud of her.

Dalene Smith has just begun her mosaic crochet journey. I started her with a lesson of the basics, and she completed a sampler for homework. Dalene is now tackling a segment of Tinna Thorudottir Thorvaldar’s Yuletide blanket for a baby. I just know once she starts down this path, Dalene will be hooked, like the rest of us!

Cynthia Nichol came to me with many black and white squares which she had knitted and which needed to be put together into a blanket. I taught her how to crochet them together and the result is a wonderful heirloom for her grandchild. It has turned out so, so well. Now Cynthia is working on a black and red one. I can’t wait to see it spread out over a bed too.

October was the month Hazel Blomkamp ran her 30% sale. My students went crazy and we put in a huge order. Everyone is delighted with their new projects! It certainly will keep them busy for months to come.

My class of young girls made little fruit bags in one crochet lesson recently. The bags worked out to be really cute. The girls decided to use them as presents for friends.

I give lessons in knitting, crocheting and hand embroidery at Kyalami on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. Lessons run every alternate week, except for the Thursday mornings; they are weekly. I’d love you to join me so I can share my passion for crafts with you.
