Greetings fellow crafters,
Winter is not my favourite time of the year as many of you would have gathered from my blogs. However, I believe God gives us a few plants that flower during these cold, dreary months to keep our spirits lifted. Aloes are examples of such plants. We visited an Aloe farm recently and honestly; it was the best thing ever. I was blown away. Thank you, Lord, for these magnificent flowers!
Mandela Day 2026 has been and gone. I can’t believe how time flies. I am so proud of my students; young and old. They all gave of their time and talents to produce the most beautiful array of scarves and beanies, bonnets and booties, teddies, port-protectors and knockers – all for those who are much less privileged or healthy than us. Many of these ladies have spent way longer than the suggested 67 minutes giving back to society. All the items have been given to responsible charities and once again I salute all of these students. Well done!
Judy Benjamin, a student, has completed her second Stitchdoodles design of African birds, animals and plants for her soon-to-be born grandson. It looks stunning. I am especially impressed that Judy had the courage to learn Turkey (Tuft) stitch to use on the lion’s mane; it looks so realistic.
My student, Eleanor Peake, has grown in confidence with her crocheting. She has been creating three temperature blankets and has just completed the first one as a gift for her niece. I taught her how to do a double border for this blanket, and it has worked beautifully. This little girl will receive it just perfectly in time for the northern hemisphere winter.
My Dad turned 80 this month and I crocheted him a blanket as a gift. I share with you photos of this blanket. I followed Vanessa Smith’s “Hooked on Sunshine” pattern. I used Elle Gold yarn and thoroughly enjoyed crocheting this project.
I give lessons in knitting, crocheting and hand embroidery at Kyalami on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. Lessons run every alternate week, except for the Thursday mornings; they are weekly. I’d love you to join me so I can share my passion for crafts with you.
