Greetings fellow crafters,
Oh, my goodness, Joburg has been freezing lately! Even though the sun shines (which is great for lifting one’s mood), the air is icy. It is the perfect weather to sit and knit or crochet or sew, with a cup of hot tea!
As I mentioned in my previous blog, Zimasa Phaswana started crochet lessons recently. She is doing so incredibly well with her crocheting. I talked her through the mechanics of the corner-to-corner stitch to make a square, and then she did another one all by herself.
Two students, Hazel Mackenzie and Lynne Ross, asked me to teach them to do mosaic crocheting. They decided to use Tinna Thorudottir Thorvaldar’s Casablanca design to make blankets. Hazel used a variegated thread with the main cream colour and created a blanket for her aging Mom. Lynne used sage green and cream to create her blanket. This was for a baby in her family. Well done to you both. The blankets are gorgeous. They are heirlooms.
Elfie de Necker, who works at a pace second to none, has completed her Rosework’s Cascade embroidery. It is near perfection. Elfie sews magnificently and the entire design is done using single DMC threads. What a masterpiece.
My lilac jersey is complete. I was lucky enough to get the merino wool from the South African Agricultural show called Nampo. It was from Karoo Moon and was an absolute pleasure to knit with. Not only that, but it is also warm as toast to wear. I love it!
I give lessons in knitting, crocheting and hand embroidery at Kyalami on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. Lessons run every alternate week, except for the Thursday mornings; they are weekly. I’d love you to join me so I can share my passion for crafts with you.
