Greetings fellow crafters,
So much as happened since my last letter to you. I’ve visited Perth, Australia and have been back to the Natal midlands. But alas, I am now home in Joburg and slowly settling back into normal life. Jet lag is not for the faint hearted! But, we had a wonderful holiday overseas and I got loads of craft ideas will I was there. It amazes me how creative people are around the globe; it kind of unites all of us with a common thread. I just love it!
I have to share with you my students’ work. Conor Hughes has completed her set of nine acrylic paintings onto which she embroidered the finer details. Each one is unique and wonderfully special. I think Conor can be immensely proud of the art she has created. It certainly was a challenging project, but it has turned out fantastically. I am as chuffed with it as Conor is!
In my last letter I reported on Elfie de Necker’s embroidery called Greensleaves (designed by Brenda Sortwell). Well, she got in made into the most beautiful tray. The carpenter, Clive, also crafted one of her Hazel Blomkamp embroideries, which she finished a while ago, into a footstool. Both are absolutely stunning.
At the same time, Eleanor Peake got her embroidered Roseworks design, Sung Dynasty, made into a footstool as a gift for her sister. It is magnificent. The woodwork and embroidery of all these projects are of top quality making them heirlooms which will be treasured. Congratulations ladies on the outstanding work!
I give lessons in knitting, crocheting and hand embroidery at Kyalami are on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. Lessons run every alternate week, except for the Thursday mornings; they are every week. I’d love you to join me so I can share my passion for crafts with you!
