What a joy Spring is! My roses are in full bloom, and the garden is looking beautiful. I come alive at this time of the year. We had a wonderful holiday for a few days and in the little town of Wakkerstroom, the ladies have decorated the trees some of the fences around the church and along the main road with crochet pieces. What a lovely touch. I also saw a sign in a haberdashery that made me laugh.
I am happy to report that the House of Embroidery range of threads are selling like hot cakes. Anyone needing these or DMC threads, please be in touch. I will gladly assist.
In August this year, a student, Conor Hughes gave me the information regarding an exhihibion being held at the WITS Art Museum. Together with Conor, my husband and I went to see it. This exhibition was put up by the Mapula project as was entited: “Seeing Covid and 2020 through the eye of a needle”.
Was it comfortable to see the ladies’ works of art? No. Was it work seeing? Absolutely yes. I share with you just a few of the pictures of the many, sad but thought-provoking embroideries depicting life experiences of people during the Covid epidemic years.
To share with you what my students have been doing; Zahra Wadee completed her first Mountmellick project, making two cushion covers. They are beautiful with the white Perle thread on white cotton material and Zahra did the embroidery work well.
Elfie De Necker finished her Jacobean runner and pedistal covers. These are designed by Colleen Goy of Roseworks. Elfie’s work is near perfections; they really are magificent.
Narayani Mahale continues to produce crochet items at a fast pace. She loves making items as gifts for her friends. Her crocheting is neat, and her creations are gorgeous.
What am I up to? I continue with my son’s birthday jersey. It is one of the DROPS designs patterns (Ice Island), and British racing car green, Elle Marino wool. I am loving the design and working with this wool. My progress is not as speedy as I would like.
I also continue with my Greensleaves embroidery, designed by Brenda Sortwell. It is lots of work but loads of fun. It is a lot of fine work and taking a long time to embroider.
I give lessons in knitting, crocheting and hand embroidery at Kyalami are on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. Lessons run every alternate week, except for the Thursday mornings; they are every week. I’d love you to join me so I can share my passion for crafts with you!
