Greetings fellow crafters!
Spring has sprung! Winter is over and it is September at last! The trees are sprouting fresh new leaves and there are buds everywhere. The temperatures are also rising. Oh, this is my favourite time of the year. We have just been away for a weekend and on one of the walks we noticed a tree full of cherry blossoms. What a delight!
New things are happening at Threads of Joy too. I now stock the House of Embroidery range of threads. Anyone needing these is welcome to call me.
So, what are my students up to? One new student, Lynne Ross, came to me because, although she could crochet she wasn’t able to follow a pattern. She has just finished a gorgeous jersey for her granddaughter. It is beautiful and make with loads of love. Lynne did a good job of this jersey.
Bohlale Leklhaka and Masego Ngwenya are both still at junior school, but their crocheting skills have improved immensely over this year. They made super bookmarks recently, while learning to do the wave stitch.
Judy Benjamin added a fourth cushion to her range. She embroidered this one with a pincushion design (one of Salli van Rensburg’s). It looks stunning and I am sure her daughter-in-law is going to be very chuffed with it.
Nellie Breedt completed her embroidery embellishment of a screened picture. It is magnificent. Nellie’s work is of the top calibre. This is a work of art, and I can’t wait to see her work framed.
What am I up to? With my son’s birthday around the corner, he asked me to make him a cable jersey. He calls it a DNA jersey! I am using one of the DROPS designs patterns (Ice Island), and British racing car green, Elle Marino wool. It is fantastic to knit with too.
I have also started an embroidery called Greensleaves designed by Brenda Sortwell. It is lots of work but loads of fun. I think this will keep me busy for a long time!
I give lessons in knitting, crocheting and hand embroidery at Kyalami are on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. Lessons run every alternate week, except for the Thursday mornings; they are every week. I’d love you to join me so I can share my passion for crafts with you!
The stock at Threads of Joy is building up.
