Greetings fellow crafters!
A lot has happened in this last month. In South Africa, we celebrate the 18th of July as Mandela Day; a day for doing service to your fellow neighbours who need a helping hand. This year, I encouraged my Threads of Joy students to knit or crochet dogs, port protectors, knockers, beanies, scarves, toys or newborn baby items, and they did an outstanding job. We were able to support the Top Dogs charity, the Cancer Association, Kids Kicking Cancer, The BabyBox Project and the ambulance service. I am so proud of my students. They went above and beyond the call of duty.

My student, Jean Beckley finished her Jacobean runner. It is absolutely stunning. Her workmanship is of the top quality and the runner is a masterpiece she can truly be proud of. The colours and design are beautiful. Apparently, it is taking pride of place on Jean’s dining room table.

Narayani has been creative in her school holidays – coming to her lesson with some cat gloves that she had made. They just needed finishing off in class. They were so cute, I had to share them with you all.

My reversable cushion covers are completed, and I am very pleased with them. Thank you Tinna Thorudottir Thorvaldar for your amazing mosaic crochet patterns. I just love this technique and the results it yields! Anyone wanting to learn, come for lessons. I warn you… it is addictive!

I also got my quilt back. I am delighted with the finished product. Thank you to the whole team who make this possible. Thank you to Colleen Goy for the lovely embroidery designs that you based on the William Morris patterns, to Norah Doherty for sewing up all the quilt pieces together so perfectly and to Ingrid Roetger for quilting it magnificently. What a project! It is an heirloom.

I give lessons at Ribbonsfields in Bordeaux every Thursday morning, so if Kyalami Estates are too far for you, please consider this option. Lessons at Kyalami are on Wednesday and Friday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. Lessons run every alternate week. I’d love you to join me so I can share my passion for crafts with you!
The stock at Threads of Joy is building up. If you are needing items, especially for your embroidery projects – from DMC threads, to Roseworks Embroidery kits, to sewing needles, to embroidery hoops or scissors please give me a call. If I don’t have the items in stock, I will try my best to get them for you. Just call me before hand to arrange a suitable time to do your shopping.
Join me if you want to learn a new skill and meet some like-minded friends! Be inspired. Begin a new project. Bring a friend along too. Contact me if you are interested in crocheting, knitting or doing some hand embroidery. Remember, you are never too old or too young to learn something new!
Yours in craft, Lindsey
