Greetings all those enthusiastic hand crafters out there!
The story of my overlocker has a happy ending. I managed to find a lovely lady, Louisa, in Roodepoort, who was willing to spend an hour showing me everything my Janome 644D can do. I left her shop with a song in my heart! As a first project, I made a cover for my new toy and it hummed as it perfectly joined the material pieces!
The heart cable scarf that I began is now finished and ready to hand over to my Mum in May. Talk about being ahead of the game! It could possibly have been knitted in chunky rather than seriously chunky wool, but it will be very warm, that’s for sure! Anyone wanting a few lessons to make one of these gorgeous scarves can give me a call.
On the crochet front, my daughter asked for a cushion for her chair where she works. I have used the opportunity to learn some new crochet stitches and I am very chuffed with the progress so far.
I am loving meeting new ladies for their sewing and or crochet lessons. Not only is there a passing on of skills but in return real friendships are being forged.
The ribbon heart is taking much longer than expected. Maybe this is because of having to use my ‘extra eyes’ which I am lazy to do, or because of having to iron each strip of ribbon before using it. This means unpacking the ironing board and iron, and again laziness sometimes kicks in! Be that as it may, the heart is slowly taking form.
My ribbon work tray cloth is finished and I am delighted with it.
A close friend of mine, Jenny, gave me the novel “Every Quilt Tells a Story”, by Helen Kelley. I am enjoying reading each little chapter, and can so relate to each little episode that Helen shares.
