Greetings fellow hand crafters
Winter is at our doorstep although apparently, we have just had the warmest May on record in South Africa. Global warming is definitely having an effect. I believe a cold front is about to hit us next week though. My students and I have been busy on all sorts of projects and these I intend sharing with you in this Blog.
Judy Benjamin completed her floral embroidery (designed by Salli van Rensburg). Judy decided to frame it and so it takes pride of place in her guest room. Judy’s stitch-work beautiful so the picture looks like a masterpiece above the bed.
Tsidi Skosana learned to crochet a few months ago as a retirement hobby, and she has produced two gorgeous granny square cushions. It is such a joy to see one’s newly learned art form take shape in a creation you can use. What cheerful colours they are too
Sue Theron has continued on her mission to make aprons; this time embroidering one for her daughter. Sue chose to embroider a Frangipani flower for this apron, and it looks absolutely stunning. Her daughter is one lucky chef!
Narayani Mahale is still at junior school. She began crocheting this year. She uses social media to look up all sorts of trending ideas – like making hair pieces for her friends or heart shaped granny squares.
Marina Smit completed her first two embroidery projects ever: creating very trendy denim sling bags for herself. I am so so proud of her work. They are gorgeous.
I am happy to report back that my Drops Design jersey is finally completed. I am thrilled with the it.
I have also finished a further three of the embroidered designs of Colleen Goy’s. They are loosely based on William Morris designs. Of the twenty-five I need to do for the quilt, five are complete.
As charity drives for Threads of Joy this year, I have chosen two options. The one is the One ball One Scarf campaign for Mandela Day; the other is the Knitted Knockers (alternatives to breast prosthesis). I challenge myself and students to give back to society and in South Africa there is need all around us. Let me know if you want to be involved in either of these.
I give lessons at Ribbonsfields in Bordeaux EVERY Thursday morning, so if Kyalami Estates are too far for you, please consider this option. Lessons at Kyalami are on Wednesday and Friday mornings and Tuesday afternoons every alternate week. I’d love you to join me so I can share my passion for crafts with you!
