Greetings fellow hand crafters
Where is the year going? It is already mid-February, and this is my first chat with you all. I cannot believe it. Summer is in full swing in South Africa and the days are gloriously warm and long. I hope your hands and fingers are working furiously on projects you want to get done this year.
In January I was determined to finish the gingham blanket for my cousin’s baby boy. I was pleased with the result but the 3-ply yarn I’d used wasn’t much fun to crochet with as it kept splitting. Little Noah has his blanket well in time for winter so that is the main thing.
My daughter took a shine to the pink Drops Design jersey I knitted last year, and she asked if she could have it. So, I bought more Himalaya cotton, this time in baby blue and I have begun the pattern for a second time. This time the jersey will definitely be for me and the pattern is easier the second time round!
The quilt based on William Morris’s designs that Colleen Goy at Roseworks has planned, has begun. I have embroidered the first two panels out of twenty-five and have just started the third. I am loving this. Each pattern is unique. I am using DMC thread, not House of Embroidery so they look slightly different to Colleen’s, but I am happy with the flowers. I hope Colleen will be too!
As charity drives for Threads of Joy this year, I have chosen two options. The one is the One ball One Scarf campaign for Mandela Day; the other is the Knitted Knockers (alternatives to breast prosthesis). I challenge myself and students to give back to society and in South Africa there is need all around us.
Some news, I am giving lessons at Ribbonsfields in Bordeaux EVERY Thursday morning, so if Kyalami Estates are too far for you, please consider this option. Lessons at Kyalami are on Wednesday and Friday mornings and Tuesday afternoons every alternate week. I’d love you to join me so I can share my passion for crafts with you!
