Greetings fellow hand crafters
A lot has happened on the craft front since my last Blog. My students have been busy and so have I. Perhaps it has something to do with the cold weather in Johannesburg. All we’ve wanted to do is sit inside our homes knitting, sewing or crocheting next to a warm heater or fireplace.
Firstly, let me share with you some of the work my students have been up to. Eleanor Peake completed a light-hearted embroidery of cartoon birds. The fact that the material was black made each stand out so beautifully.
Amanda Phyffer has just started embroidery lessons and her first ever Jacobean piece of work is really looking good. Sue Theron has been making some aprons as gifts for young girls. She decided to applique some apples onto one. What a brilliant job she did with these.
Shira Bacher’s cushion of wild grasses is magnificent. This is one of Sally van Rensburg’s designs.
In June I crocheted a second “Cherish” blanket (by Jody Pyott) as a wedding present for a friend of my daugther. Since I didn’t want her to see it before her wedding, I am only sharing photos of this with your now.
Currently I am working on one of Hazel Blomkamp’s Jacobean embroidery designs. I am absolutely loving this work. It is intricate with lots of colour; just what I enjoy. At the same time, I am knitting a jersey for myself. It is one of the patterns from the Drop Designs website and I am using Addi Click circular needles for the first time. So far, so good!
I made some corner bookmarks recently. They are simple embroidery designs that don’t take a long time to sew, but allow you to make personalised gifts for your friends.
I also did a simple rose design and got it made into a sling bag. It can be used for yourself or as a gift. Come for a lesson or two and I’ll show you how to make them yourself.
As a reminder, I am giving lessons at Ribbonsfields in Bordeaux every second Thursday morning, so if Kyalami Estates are too far for you, please consider this option. Lessons at Kyalami are on Wednesday and Friday mornings and Tuesday afternoons every alternate week.
The stock at Threads of Joy is building up.
