Greetings fellow hand crafters
Here we are already into the second quarter of the year. Hand work projects should be well under way…if not, it certainly is a good time to start! I had a wonderful weekend away near Dullstroom at the beginning of April and after a glorious afternoon rain storm, I took this photo of the reflected rainbow. It’s not often that one sees a complete circle and I thought it would be perfect for my Joyful Reflections Blog.
I had the privilege of being able to attend the Keiskamma Art Exhibition. What a magnificent collection of embroidery, applique and textile art by the ladies from the little town of Hamburg in the Eastern Cape. I was completely blown away by their creations. It is amazing what women can produce when they are taught a few stitches and given the materials to do some hand work.
My Mountmellick embroidery runner (from Yvette Stanton and Prue Scott‘s designs) is complete and has been sewn up by Anita Bouwer. It has been a joy to work on this and I am delighted with the finished product.
I am so proud of the work my students are producing. To mention just a couple, Shira Bacher has completed two cushions with Protea designs and Elfie De Necker is progressing beautifully with her Jacobean design from Hazel Blomkamp.
I decided to challenge all my Threads of Joy students to knit or crochet at least one scarf for the Kismet One-Ball-One-Scarf for Mandela Day campaign. It is going so well. The scarves are starting to come in and they are looking gorgeous. They will all be handed in at the end of June. Well done to Rozanne Rindel who was the first to hand in her scarf to me!
