Greetings fellow hand crafters

Spring has sprung! Johannesburg is hot and sunny with beautiful blue skies. As yet, we haven’t had any rain, but the flowers are in full bloom and the gardens are looking magnificent. They certainly are an inspiration for embroidery designs. I have just returned from a restful week in the Kruger National Park, where the flowers are just as pretty.

I am now giving lessons at Ribbonsfields in Bordeaux on Thursday mornings, every alternate week. It has been a pleasure working with Liesl and Lisa there and slowly the numbers of students are picking up. If Kyalami Estates are too far for you, please consider this option. I am available to teach knitting, crochet and hand embroidery there too.

My commissioned Crowned Crane(from Mille Marotta’s adult colouring-in books) is taking shape, as is my Tinna Thorvaldor’s Queen Cal blanket. The blanket is getting large and very hot to crochet in this weather, so I am trying to work with it on one side of me in the evenings. Unlike in winter, it is simply too uncomfortable to have it on my lap. Still, it is coming along well.

I can at last share with you what I embroidered for my son for his 21st birthday. I sewed him a pangolin in single thread and then got it boxed framed by Bev Botha. She framed it beautifully and I am delighted with the result. Luke was very pleased with his gift.
