Greetings fellow crafters!
It is hard to believe we are heading into the second quarter of the year. Where does the time go? Here, in Joburg, the weather is a glorious temperature; not too hot but definitely warm. The trees are starting to shed their leaves and Autumn is in full swing. It is a wonderful time to be busy with crafts especially those involving wool.
Just to give an update on my William Morris based quit. Norah Doherty did a fabulous job of sewing all the panels together and now I am in the long queue waiting to get it professionally quilted. Apparently, my name will be up sometime in May. Watch this space! I will post photos once it is complete.
Now to share with you what some of my students have been doing: Bohlale Letlhaka, an 11 year old, has been learning all sorts of crocheting skills and is mastering the craft beautifully.
Masego Ngwenya is only 10 years old. She too, is a beginner who has taken to crocheting like a duck to water. She is creating a blanket of brightly coloured granny squares.
Lana Sanderson has been for a couple of embroidery lessons and has already completed her first project. When one looks at her work, you would think she’d been sewing for years. I am so impressed at what she has learned so quickly
Shira Bacher and Amanda Phyffer both worked on Hazel Blomkamp’s Norman the Tortoise. It is an intricate embroidery involving many new stitches as well as needle weaving. Both ladies rose to the challenge and produced masterpieces. I am so, so proud of them both. Well done!
My set of cushion covers of my lounge is coming on in leaps and bounds. I love my choice of colours and I am loving the mosaic crocheting. Thank you to Tinna Thorvaldar’s for her wonderful designs.
I give lessons at Ribbonsfields in Bordeaux every Thursday morning, so if Kyalami Estates are too far for you, please consider this option. Lessons at Kyalami are on Wednesday and Friday mornings and Tuesday afternoons every alternate week. I’d love you to join me so I can share my passion for crafts with you!
