Greetings fellow hand crafters
Johannesburg is now official cold! Winter has set in. It is the perfect time to have a crocheted blanket or knitted jersey on your lap as you work on it – especially if you can find a spot to sit in where the sun can warm your back, or a log fire can warm your feet. Hours can melt away blissfully!
The embroidery of indigenous wild flowers by Salli van Rensburg is finished. Anita Bouwer sewed it up into a beautiful cushion for me and I am delighted with the finished product. It takes centre stage on the bed in our guest room. If you are keen to do this magnificent embroidery please join me. It is with pleasure that I will show you how!
I have also finished a Janet Davies Mountmellick design. It is a relatively simple pattern, brought alive by the choice of stitching. Traditionally, Mountmellick is done with white thread on white material, but I chose to use a Chameleon thread called Clotted Cream, just to lift the colour a tad.
Student numbers have increased dramatically. Some are learning to crochet for the first time, but many are coming for embroidery lessons. They enjoy sitting together chatting away while they create their own masterpieces. There is a joy that comes from seeing a piece of material come to life with coloured flowers or a ball of wool take form into a blanket or jersey.
